The World in Vogue: People, Parties and Places

If you are on the look-out for an awesome coffee table book then this is for you... Vogue's "People, Parties and Places" was recently launched in the US. It contains around 300 photographs of some of the most celebrated social figures that have appeared in Vogue for the last four decades.

The book is divided into five sections: The Women, The Parties, The Actresses, The Places and The Muses/Models. On the cover is the handsome couple: Tom Brady and Giselle Bundchen.

What's inside... here is a quick glimpse...
I wonder in what section the last photo belongs.

Regular price is US$75 but it's on sale at Amazon for US$47.25. This can be a fabulous Christmas gift too. Total weight of book is approximately 6lbs.... hmmmmm... me thinks *excess weight on my luggage again*. Oh what the heck, I can deal with that... hand-carry if I have to.

Miniskirt Weather

Forever 21 Beaded Skirt $24.80
Tropical weather is characterized as warm and forever humid.
In the fashion world, this equates to a lot of light airy outfits, lots of shorts and miniskirt.

Wish I can wear those fabulous fall and winter outfits again...
I'm getting bored with miniskirts.

Leah is giving away some leg lovin'...

Kate Torralba is a well-known Filipino fashion designer who collaborated with Philippines' hosiery pioneer City Lady and came up with Leg Love, a colorful range of tights in lace and prints. Designer collaboration also happens here in our humble country you know. Hahaha! Back to the topic, the collection includes solid-colored opaque tights and textured stockings which are edgy, fun and flirty.

You'd think that ladies in the tropics would have no use for tights given the weather but why is it that the KT line is always almost sold-out in stores. Could it be that we Filipinas tend to sacrifice comfort for style? Oooppps... guilty as charged. Hahaha!

Fabulous right? Now, here's the good news... I decided that it's time for my first give-away. I'll call it my Thanksgiving gift... to show my appreciation to all you people who never grow tired of reading all my nonsense. What's great is I'm sharing to the world a Philippine-made product of high quality, that I assure you *unlike all the other international designers' collaboration with retail brands*.

I'm giving not one but three pairs of tights to one lucky lady. The same rule applies:
  • comment on this post and be a follower for one entry from now until 11/26/09.
  • if you are already a follower, please tell me.
  • sorry I don't have a twitter account so you can't follow me there. Hahaha!
  • that means each of you has only one chance to win... fair to everybody right?
  • everybody can join (local and international)... if you don't have a blog, same rule applies but leave your email address.
Disclaimer: I am not at all sponsored by Kate Torralba. I chose this give-away because I know that you'll be impressed by the quality and workmanship. But it won't hurt if KT decides to sponsor this. Wishful thinking! *winks*

In Focus: Storets

Koreans are everywhere... they are all over the Philippines. And the good thing about this is I get to people-watch a lot. You see, I have this thing about Korean fashion... I admire how these girls dress. They have their own unique style that even if you wear the same dress they're wearing, something else is missing. I guess it's the Korean "it" factor.

Thanks to Slanelle Style for introducing me to Storets, a Korean online fashion store. I had countless sleepless nights spent on deciding which will remain in my shopping cart. You see, there's this thing about Philippine Customs that I don't like. When they see a big package for you, tax will definitely shoot up. So I have to shop wisely.

These are the items in my cart... have to decide which are the keepers.

Check out the site. Prices are soooooo affordable.
Happy shopping everyone!

Sketch Me

I see a lot of blogger sketches and illustrations done by fellow bloggers who specialize in that field. And I also chanced upon Sketchbook's fashion blogger issue featuring Susie of Style Bubble in the cover.

I'm a sucker for self-portraits and sketches but I can no longer wait for me to be popular to merit the works of those illustrators. Time to DIY... Pathetic, I know. Hahaha!

I did my own sketches using Photoshop. (I can't draw so I need all the help I can get.)

Here is a simple DIY to have your own sketch:
  • Choose the image you want to sketch
  • Open the image in Photoshop
  • Click the Filter menu
  • Choose Sketch then select Photocopy
  • Click the Image Menu
  • Choose Brightness and Contrast then adjust accordingly
  • Go back to Filter menu
  • Choose Sharpen and click Unsharp Mask
  • Save your image

In Focus: The Boyfriend Watch

What is it about the fashion industry's predilection towards the boyfriend? We saw the emergence of the boyfriend jeans, the boyfriend blazer and yes, the boyfriend watch.

I guess you know that anything that dear Oprah endorses would be a big hit. Take the case of the Philip Stein watch, she was seen wearing it during her shows and voila, everybody wanted to wear it too. (Me plead guilty. Hahaha!) Now, Oprah is into Vabene...

Vabene is an Italian fashion watch brand founded by the Grimoldi family. This family is known for it's expertise in the world of high-end watches and jewelry.

Because of my obsession about things huge *see my bags*, I want a boyfriend watch too. I'm kinda loving the pirate collection...

Hmmmmm... Christmas is just around the corner... *winks*

In Focus: Little Black Dress

Friday... girls night out.
Thought of wearing this little black dress...
but isn't it too short?

Come to think of it, I got it from the rack together with the knitted tops.
So this must be a top and not a dress.

A Thing of Beauty is a Joy Forever

Let me introduce my cousin, Yvette Peri, a residential architecture designer and jeweler from Northern Virginia. She recently launched her Etsy site featuring her hand-crafted jewelry collection. All pieces are custom made in sterling silver or 14K gold.

Here are some of my favorites...

In Focus: The Ankle Boots

I got this ankle boots from Zara a month ago... but I haven't taken it for a spin until now.
Why do I have this feeling that I looked so short every time I wear them?

PAL Saved the Day...

Current Mood: Happy

I got a couple of emails from the Office of the President of the Philippine Airlines... now I feel like a celebrity. Here are excerpts from the emails...

On behalf of PAL Management, we thank you for your valued patronage of the flag carrier. However, we sincerely regret to know that we have failed in your expectations in providing you a pleasurable flight, particularly, with the reported inoperative inflight entertainment system of your assigned seat. Please accept on the outset our deepest apologies for the disappointment and discomfort resulting from the reported occurrence and the untoward turn of events.

Based on the results of our investigation, we have learned that the aircraft assigned to your PR103 flight of 06 November was our newly-refurbished Boeing 747-400 aircraft. Please allow us to share with you that the flag carrier had embarked on a PHP3.5 billion renovation of our wide-body fleet last April 2008 to provide more comfort and amenities to our passengers. The project involved the reconfiguration of passenger cabin from a tri-class to bi-class layout, along with a major upgrade of the interioris and amenities last April, 2008. The aircraft assigned to your flight was installed with a new software for its inflight entertainment system, which regrettably, did not function properly during your flight. As this new software for our inflight entertainment was installed quite recently, we are still observing isolated cases of deficiencies that serve as avenues for us to perfect the system. We have brought this matter to the attention of aircraft maintenance provider, Lufthansa Technik Philippines, who had worked on its immediate rectification and has been relentlessly exerting efforts to alleviate recurrence of a similar incident.

We have taken serious note of your additional comments, particularly on the attitude problems of our personnel from the flight crew to the " we care " staff. This definitely goes against our service culture of ensuring total passenger care at all times. We will bring them to the attention of the heads of the concerned offices. It is our goal to provide an enjoyable flight experience through professional and caring service regardless of class, nationality or membership status.

Let us see if the senior flight crew's attitude will improve...
as they say it's difficult to tea
ch old dogs new tricks.

Cartoons from FlightcrewZoo

But I am still hopeful...
Thank you Philippine Airlines.
More power and Mabuhay!
